During a normal vaginal delivery a new mother will lose at least one eighth to one tenth of her body's blood supply, with caesarean section births blood loss can be significantly more. Losing a large amount of iron so quickly can cause anaemia, leaving a new mum feeling tired, faint and exhausted. The blood needs high supplies of iron to carry oxygen to the cells - low supplies of oxygen leave your cells starving and less able to heal after trauma. The placenta benefits the new mother by supplying incredibly rich iron, amino acids and essential fats which we believe is the perfect replenishment following the physical ordeal of birth. The most important nutrients found in rich supply in the placenta include:
There are a number of ways to benefit from your placenta which I can help you with. I have seen them all work amazingly well with new mothers - see my Placenta Encapsulation Testimonials section. I am a trained and certified IPEN specialist and hold all relevant blood borne pathogen and food hygiene certificates.
Placenta Encapsulation: Fee: £180 - includes loan of safe storage equipment (concession rate available on request and with proof of entitlement) Placenta Essence:
Extremely helpful for relieving "baby blues" and post-partum depression
or any time you need a little hormonal help or your baby needs a lift. Your placenta is distilled then suspended in a weak alcohol solution as
a “mother” essence to create a remedy which can last you a lifetime. A
few drops when you're feeling like you need a lift is very powerful, as
is a drop for your child when they are fretful or under the weather. This essence works through the energy of the placenta water and the vibrational properties of it and many women with PND swear by it. Placenta Tincture: A powerful and potent remedy to aid physical and emotional healing and to support hormonal balancing. Extremely effective during PMS and the menopause, also during times of transition, illness, stress, emotional upheaval or hormonal imbalance. Your placenta is steeped in a strong alcohol solution for 6 weeks, oscillated daily, then prepared into a tincture which should last you a lifetime. Takes 6 weeks to prepare. Fee: £70 (£50 when ordered with capsules) Placenta Homeopathic Remedy: We can arrange for a reputable homeopath to produce placenta remedies unique to you and your baby's constitution. These remedies have been known to work with colic, teething and separation anxiety and can help new mothers with depression and emotional upset. Delivery 2 weeks after collection. Fee: £50 for 30c potency (for mum) and 7c potency (for baby) including postage. Placenta Balm Placenta remedies are particularly effective on skin problems due to its rich hormonal content. DHEA, a natural steroid prohormone which amplifies the effects of existing hormones, and cortisols of the placenta can help to heal infected skin. Calendula oil infused with placenta, emulsified with beeswax and lavender essential oil is the perfect natural remedy for nappy rash and many other irritating, inflammatory skin conditions as well as non-specific itching. Balm can also be used effectively to reduce the signs of scar tissue and burns. Stored well, placenta balm will retain its healing properties for up to 12 months. A tincture will also be made and kept for up to 5 years for reordering. Fee: £30 for 120ml jar. Placenta Cream The placenta is rich in Oestrogen which builds collagen in the skin and Progesterone which inhibits the breakdown of collagen, normally leading to wrinkles as we age. Proteins from the placentas of cows and sheep are frequently used in commercially available anti-aging creams, so now we have the opportunity to prepare a homemade skin care product made with the mum's own placenta. A rich, unscented base cream infused with placenta tincture used regularly can leave skin looking fresh and smooth. Placenta cream can also be effective on dry skin conditions such as eczema. Stored well, placenta cream will retain its powerful properties for up to 12 months. A tincture will also be made and kept for up to 5 years for reordering. Fee: £30 for 120ml jar.
